Non-Traditional Education Opportunities

What is Non-Traditional Education? Non-traditional education at Mifflinburg Area School District is education that occurs outside the traditional classroom walls. It includes: eLearning, Hybrid eLearning, Early College (Dual Enrollment) Programs, Cooperative Education, and Homeschooling.
Who benefits from Non-Traditional Education? The students that are seeking a diverse education experience benefit most from a Non-Traditional experience. It may include taking courses fully online for various reasons. It may be the high school student that is not able to fit that class into his/her class schedule and they can take the course in eLearning. These are the eLearning students that are considered Hybrid students in that the student is taking most of their classes in person and one or more courses online.
Early College agreements with both Lackawanna College, Lycoming College, and Commonwealth University (Bloomsburg, Lock Haven, and Mansfield) provide high school seniors with the opportunity to earn both college and high school credit while taking college courses at the local College or University. Students receive reduced tuition when they are enrolled in this program.
Cooperative Education at Mifflinburg High School is also known as the Working Wildcats. This program includes daily classroom instruction promoting job attainment, job retention, job creation, and general workplace skills. Students then work at least 15 hours per week at a local business or place of employment learning job skills that will be helpful to the student in the future.
Homeschooling - Section 1327.1 of the Pennsylvania School Code provides for a home education program designed to permit a parent, guardian or legal custodian ("supervisor") who has a high school diploma or its equivalent to conduct a home education program for his or her child or children.
