How do I sign up for eLearning?

My child is in 4th grade and wants to do eLearning. What is that like?
Students in K-5 have courses in Math, English, Social Studies, and Science. They are taught by PA Certified Teachers. There are also workbooks for those students that have assignments. They have weekly online meetings with their teachers.
My child is in 7th grade and wants to do eLearning. What is that like?
Students in 6-8 have courses in Math, English, Social Studies, and Science. The courses are delivered through the Edgenuity Platform, but they are taught and monitored by Mifflinburg Middle School teachers. There are specific due dates and if the student follows those dates, they
My child is in 10th grade and wants to do eLearning. What is that like?
Students in 9-12 have courses in Math, English, Social Studies, and Science, Physical Education, Drivers Education, Economics and other required courses. The courses are delivered through the Edgenuity Platform and Schoology, but they are taught and monitored by Mifflinburg High School teachers.
How is student attendance tracked and what are the weekly log-in requirements?
Attendance is tracked weekly. The students in 6th through 12th grades do not need to do their work between 7:45 and 2:45 on weekdays. That is some of the flexibility. They must log in and complete assignments five out of seven days during the week and stay within 10% of their expected progress. Attendance is tracked every Monday.
What happens if a student falls behind in their coursework?
If a student is more than 10% behind in their course work and they have not logged in for the required time each day, the student will be considered illegally absent for the days they did not log in to do any classwork.
Are students in the eLearning program required to report to school for standardized state tests (PSSAs/Keystone Exams)?
Yes, if students are in grades 3-8 they are required to take the PSSA exams. If the student is taking a Keystone tested subject they are required to take that Keystone exam.
What are the key responsibilities of a parent or guardian in the eLearning program?
Students that are successful in eLearning have parents and guardians that are supportive of the student at home. Some examples include setting up a daily schedule, checking on the students progress, and enforcing consequences based on the students academic standing.
What academic support, such as tutoring or interventions, is available to my child?
The eLearning program has space available in the High School Library for students do work and receive help. They can readily access their teacher of record through electronic means to schedule a time for a tutoring session. Additionally the students are supported to their degree of need.
What is the Mifflinburg Area School District's protocol on Academic Integrity for eLearning students?
eLearning students are expected to submit original work. The Edgenuity program has a plagiarism and artificial intelligence checker. If an assignment is flagged as using material that was not the students, the teacher or Non-Traditional Education Principal will un-submit the assignment and have the student complete it again. If it is still not original material the teacher can assign a failing grade that is appropriate to the dishonest work that was submitted.
If my child is in eLearning can they attend SUN Tech as a senior?
Yes, students in the eLearning program may take advantage of senior programs such as SUN Tech, Early College, and Cooperative Education.
